ADD/ADHD Consultation Information
Before beginning your child’s treatment for ADD, ADHD, or any other behavioral disorder at AGC Pediatrics, we request that you schedule an initial consultation with one of our providers. A typical behavioral consult can last anywhere from 20 minutes to approximately an hour, and provides both you and one of our providers who evaluate and treat behavioral disorders to discuss whatever concerns you may have about your child.
Consults can be scheduled at our Calhoun or Cartersville locations or the Calhoun Well Clinic. Providers that treat ADD, ADHD, and other behavioral disorders at AGC Pediatrics include Dr. Joseph Joyave, Dr. Angel Acevedo, Dr. Lawrence Lockett, Dr. Tim Chomyn, and Shawn Haggard, L.C.S.W.
In order to schedule your consultation, please contact the Nurse by phone at (706) 625-5900 or by email. Once your child begins treatment at AGC Pediatrics, she will also handle any refill requests or concerns that you may have.
Behavioral Medicine Policies
Contacting the Office
Our nurse schedules the consultation appointments for every location. Because she works on a voicemail system, it is important that you leave her a clear, detailed message with your child’s name, birthday, the reason for your call, and the best number to reach you.
Cancellations
If your child does not make his or her appointment, or you do not call to re-schedule with 24 hours of notice, we cannot provide your child with a medication refill until he or she attends another appointment. Please be advised that it may take some time to schedule another appointment.
Prescriptions and Refills
When calling the office for a prescription refill, please leave the nurse a detailed message including the medication to be filled and the dosage. If this information is not included in the voicemail, we will not be able to process the prescription.
Due to the large volume of messages that she receives, the nurse is not able to call back to gain the correct information; as such, it is vitally important that you provide us with the correct medication name and dosage, as well as your child’s name, date of birth, and a return phone number.
We also ask that you allow 72 business hours for us to prepare your prescription. For example, if you leave a message on a Friday, it will not be available until Tuesday after 4:00 PM. Please do not wait until the last minute to request a refill of your child’s medication.
Controlled Substance Laws
AGC Pediatrics is bound to follow laws that govern the distribution of controlled substances, which include some ADD and ADHD medications. For this reason, a parent of legal guardian must pick up the prescriptions, and will be asked to show a valid picture ID and sign for the medication; we are legally unable to allow other family members or friends to pick up a prescription. Lastly, we are not able to fax prescriptions for controlled substances.
Questions or Concerns
If you have concerns about your child’s medication or behavior, please leave the nurse a clear and detailed message, including your child’s name and date of birth, so that she can alert your child’s doctor of the situation. If your child has a medical emergency, or is a danger to themselves or others, please call the Crisis Line at 1 (800) 715-4225, or take the child to your local Emergency Room.
