ADHD and Your Teenager

If you have noticed behavioral changes in your teenager, such as: distraction, poor concentration, or falling grades, they may be in need of ADHD diagnosis or treatment. The pediatricians at AGC Pediatrics treat ADHD in teens in Calhoun, Cartersville, and across the state of Georgia.

If you think your teenager could benefit from ADHD behavioral treatment and evaluation, please schedule a consultation with an ADHD physician today.

Common Signs of ADHD in Teens

Teenagers with ADHD express similar signs as children with ADHD, however, symptoms may be exacerbated due to hormonal changes in the body. Common signs of ADHD in teenagers include the following:
  • Hyperactivity
  • Irritability
  • Poor Concentration
  • Easily Distracted
  • Impulsive Behavior

The symptoms listed above often cause teenage students to fall behind in school and become overwhelmed with tasks such as classwork assignments, homework, and studying. If your teenager is expressing signs of impulsivity, they may tend to interrupt class or answer questions out loud.

ADHD in teens can influence peer groups and social interactions in school, sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. If you think your teenager could have ADHD, it is important to schedule a consultation and evaluation with the ADHD pediatricians at AGC Pediatrics.

Your child shouldn’t have to experience academic or social hardships because they are not receiving proper ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

How Parents Can Help Teens with ADHD

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD or you think your teenager has been exhibiting symptoms of ADHD, be sure to show your support and practice patience. Stay calm when you are disciplining your child and reward good behavior. Provide clear instructions and direction to avoid frustration between you and your teen.

Help monitor your teen’s school work and schedule to ensure they are not missing deadlines and homework assignments. It is important to teach teens with ADHD proper organization skills to make daily tasks and projects easier to manage.
