Testing for ADHD in Children
Attention deficit hyperactive disorder, or ADHD, is a chronic condition that makes it more difficult for a child to pay attention and causes hyperactivity, or impulsive behavior. While every child is different, ADHD symptoms tend to fall into one or more of the following categories: inattentiveness, hyperactivity, impulsivity.
Symptoms of Childhood ADHD
If you believe your child may have ADHD, you will need to visit a pediatrician or a behavioral specialist for a screening. However, taking note of common signs and symptoms may help you decide whether an ADHD screening is necessary.
Here are some of the signs that a child may have ADHD:
· Inability to sit still, even for short periods of time
· Easily distracted
· Inattentive to details and direction
· Difficulty following instruction
· Consistently loses toys, books, schoolwork, etc.
· Constant movement
· Difficulty playing quietly
· Speaking and acting before thinking
· Frequently interrupts others conversations or games
· Quick-tempered, powerful emotions
· Tries to guess answers without solving the problem

My Child May Have ADHD: Now What?
There is no single test for ADHD. If believe your child exhibits signs of ADHD, schedule a consultation with one of our providers. The skilled and caring pediatricians at AGC Pediatrics work closely with our in-office psychologist and licensed social worker to determine a diagnosis. An ADHD consultations will include:
1. Full medical examination
2. Review of extensive checklist of symptoms
3. Examination of medical and behavioral history of the child
Additionally, your provider will note whether or not your child meets the requirements for severity, duration, and environment in which their symptoms present themselves.
