7 Milestones You Can Expect in Your Baby’s First Year
Watching your child grow is one of the most rewarding experiences for a parent, especially after the weeks of sleepless nights taking care of a newborn. Here are some of the exciting things you can look forward to in your baby’s first year of life.
Smile
At around 2 months your baby will begin to smile. As the first, and possibly sweetest, milestone this first smile can make all the hard work worth it for parents. Your baby will start smiling in response to your voice and when they recognize your face.
Laugh
You’ll finally be getting a break from cries; at 4 months your baby will learn to laugh. This infectiously happy noise is incredible in how easily it is set off. Funny faces, tickling, and even seemingly random noises are enough to get your baby giggling.
Sleep Through the Night
Around 4-6 months you and your partner will start getting some much needed rest. At this point, your baby will start sleeping through the night, finally letting you do the same!
Sit up Alone
Between 7 and 9 months the days of floppy, wobbly baby are behind you. Now, your baby will start being able to sit up without any support from you. This is the first step towards increasing mobility for your child.
Crawl
In addition to getting a weight workout from lifting your baby, you might start getting some cardio around 8 months. Once your baby starts crawling it seems like they’re always on the go!
Eat with Hands
Your baby’s motor skills will start to fine-tune a little after 9 months. They’ll be able to grasp objects more firmly and even be able to bring food to their mouths — though they might not always get it in on the first try!
First Steps & First Words
Around the one-year mark comes some major growth. Depending on the speed of your child’s development, you might start witnessing their first steps and hearing their first words.
After the first year, the changes start to come faster. Keep an eye out for all the exciting milestones still to come!
